Junior steward or stewardess
The entry rung in the interior, and the one place where a food safety award is a legal requirement rather than an agency preference. Plus the basics.
MUST HAVE
- Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Cateringcourse
- VALID
- 3 years is the industry norm, applied as employer and provider policy rather than a stated MCA expiry.
- UNLOCKS

EXPECTED
- GUEST Yacht Introduction Hospitality Program (Units 23, 32, 02, 03)course
- VALID
- No expiry found on the unit certificates. The Certificate of Competence needs separate sea service verification.

FROM THE BRIDGE
- Finishing a GUEST course only earns a course attendance certificate, and the Certificate of Competence arrives later once the awarding body receives a signed training record book.
- Level 2 food safety is a legal requirement for any interior crew member who processes food in the galley, not only for cooks.
- Crowd management training is required under the Large Yacht Code once a yacht carries more than twelve passengers, which catches the head of interior.
